Hi, I'm vanessa

In the middle of juggling work, home life, and everything else, finding time for weekly therapy can feel impossible, even when you know you need it. Therapy always seems like it’s for “later”—but when does that time ever come?

That’s where therapy intensives come in.

Instead of squeezing one more thing into your already packed schedule, a therapy intensive lets you dive deep into your mental health over a focused time period, making it easier to prioritize your well-being without stretching yourself too thin.

As a therapist and a mom, I get it. Therapy can feel like just another item on the to-do list. You’re already managing the second shift at home after work, and therapy should help you unload, not add more stress. And I am usually seeing my clients either during their lunch break, during their child’s nap-time, or during the evening rush.

So I completely get how something that is good for you can also present as a challenge.

Therapy intensives offer a breakthrough without the weekly scheduling headache. In this post, we’ll explore how therapy intensives can be a game-changer for busy moms who need support but don’t have time for traditional weekly therapy.

The Reality of a Busy Mom’s Life

Being a mom, especially if you do paid work outside of your home-life, often feels like running two full-time jobs—one for your job and one at home. After work, the second shift begins: dinner, bath time, housekeeping, and managing the kids’ needs.

And let’s not forget the mental load—schedules, grocery lists, school forms, and all the invisible tasks that never seem to end.

By the time you finally get a moment to yourself, you’re too exhausted to think about therapy. What’s supposed to be a space for healing can start to feel like another commitment to juggle. You might think, “I’ll get to therapy later,” but life rarely slows down.

And that’s where the stress piles up: you need support, but it feels impossible to make time for it.

Why Traditional Weekly Therapy Can Be Hard to Commit To

Traditional weekly therapy can feel like a luxury moms simply can’t afford—not in terms of money, but time and energy.

Scheduling a weekly session sounds simple, but when you’re constantly juggling work deadlines, meetings, kids’ activities, and daily chaos, it’s not so easy. A single week can turn into a mess of shifting priorities, and therapy takes a back seat.

The real challenge isn’t just the hour in therapy—it’s the mental energy it takes to engage. After handling everything and everyone else, finding the bandwidth to dig deep can feel overwhelming. Many moms cancel or reschedule because it’s just too much.

That’s why therapy intensives are becoming a go-to solution—they allow you to tackle your mental health in a concentrated way without the stress of fitting it into your weekly schedule.

How Therapy Intensives Offer a Solution

Therapy intensives, also called immersive therapy or therapeutic retreats, are the deep dive of mental health care.

Instead of spreading sessions over weeks, a therapy intensive lets you work through your challenges in a focused stretch of time. Think of it like binge-watching a series—you’re fully immersed and get more out of the experience in less time.

During a therapy intensive, you spend multiple hours over a day, or a few days, with a licensed therapist. This dedicated time lets you dig into what’s going on beneath the surface without interruptions. You can address more in one intensive than several weekly sessions.

For busy moms, this approach makes sense.

Instead of squeezing in a weekly session, you can commit to a stretch of healing. By the end, you’ll have addressed immediate concerns and developed strategies to keep moving forward, in a way you couldn’t have with weekly sessions.

Honestly, speaking from experience, this is probably one of my most frustrating things with the 45, 50 or even 60 minute model of individual weekly therapy; it’s not always enough time to get to through things, and I find having to say, “let’s table that for next time”. Sometimes that thing for next time can’t wait.

Therapy intensives create momentum—you leave feeling like you’ve made real progress. For busy moms, it’s a powerful experience that fits your life without adding to your mental load.

Benefits of Therapy Intensives for Busy Moms

Therapy intensives can be a game-changer.

Imagine addressing your mental health in a compact, focused way without blocking out weekly time for months. That’s one of the biggest perks—it saves time.

Focused Healing:

Therapy intensives allow for uninterrupted exploration. You can dive deep without the usual distractions or breaks. It helps uncover root issues and patterns that might not surface in traditional sessions.

Reduced Stress:

Weekly therapy can feel like another item on your list. But a therapy intensive removes that pressure. Instead of trying to fit therapy into your life, you schedule a concentrated stretch of time that works best for you.

Flexibility:

Therapy intensives are easier to work around. A weekend intensive, for example, can fit into your life more easily, allowing you to focus on yourself without guilt.

Immediate Impact:

You see faster progress because you’re spending several hours focused on your mental health. It’s like hitting fast-forward on your personal growth—perfect for moms who need meaningful support.

How to Know If a Therapy Intensive Is Right for You

If you’ve struggled to find time for weekly therapy or feel stuck, a therapy intensive might be just what you need. Here are signs a therapy intensive could be a great fit:

  • Limited Free Time: If your schedule is packed, a therapy intensive provides the same benefits in a shorter time.
  • Need for Immediate Progress: If you need results now, therapy intensives allow for faster breakthroughs.
  • Challenges with Scheduling: If you constantly reschedule due to work or family, a therapy intensive gives you a dedicated space without the juggling.
  • Feeling Overwhelmed: For moms feeling burned out, therapy intensives offer the chance to recharge and get emotional support.
  • Stuck in Traditional Therapy: If you’ve been in weekly sessions but feel like you’ve hit a plateau, a therapy intensive can help push through barriers.
  • Want to Save Money: Therapy intensives can save money in the long run. You get the same (or better) results in fewer sessions, which means less time and money spent.

If any of these resonate, a therapy intensive could be the experience you need to take control of your mental health—saving time, energy, and money.

What to Expect from a Therapy Intensive

Therapy intensives provide concentrated, immersive support over a set time—whether it’s a weekend or a few days.

I can’t speak for how other therapists set up their intensives, so I’ll tell you about mine.

Here’s what a weekend therapy intensive with me looks like: We start with an in-depth assessment and goal-setting session. This is where we dive into what’s been weighing on you—whether it’s anxiety, perfectionism, or the challenges of motherhood and postpartum. We establish clear, personalized goals so you leave with strategies that actually work.

Throughout the weekend, we have multiple extended sessions. This uninterrupted time means you don’t stop just as you’re getting into something, which is often the case with weekly therapy. We cover more ground in less time. I incorporate different modalities depending on your needs—mindfulness, holistic practices, talk therapy, or experiential exercises—to help you gain clarity and find practical strategies.

At the end, you’ll have a follow-up plan. I provide continued support to ensure the progress you’ve made during the weekend sticks, and that you feel confident moving forward.

As a therapist and mom, I offer weekend therapy intensives because I get how limited your time is. A weekend can be the perfect balance between deep healing and keeping your life moving.

How to Get Started with a Therapy Intensive

If you’re ready to prioritize your mental health, a therapy intensive might be the right fit.

First, define your goals. Are you looking to manage perfectionism, navigate motherhood challenges, or process deeper emotions? Defining your goals will ensure your therapy experience is focused and effective.

Once your goals are set, consider practical logistics. Begin looking for a therapist that offers intensives that fit those goals and your needs. For a weekend therapy intensive, like mine, you’ll need to block out uninterrupted time, arrange childcare, and make sure your needs are taken care of in advance. This allows you to fully immerse in the process without distractions.

Remember, taking this time for yourself isn’t another chore—it’s essential.

Investing in your mental health benefits every part of your life, long after the weekend is over.

Conclusion

Therapy intensives offer busy moms a way to prioritize their mental health without adding more stress. With focused, immersive sessions, you can make real progress in a shorter time frame. By investing in a weekend therapy intensive, you’re giving yourself the space to recharge, heal, and find clarity.

If you’re ready to take that next step and live in Massachusetts or Texas, I invite you to learn more about my weekend therapy intensives. As I mentioned previously, I offer weekend intensives specifically because I know how hard it is for moms to commit to long stretches of time.

hello there.

I’m vanessa,
YOUR relatable mom-therapist

And not the fake relatable on social media, but a perfectionist mom too... the messy, procrastinating kind though

I know your story—you’ve always been the go-getter, the one who excels, who sets the bar high and clears it every time.

But then came motherhood, and suddenly, the game changed. Your perfectionism, the very thing that has driven your success, now feels like it’s working against you. The self-doubt creeps in, the questions about whether you’re doing this ‘mom thing’ right, and that unsettling feeling of not recognizing yourself in the mirror anymore.

I’ve always been a perfectionist, but never a "recovering perfectionist" (it's such bs anyway... what am I recovering from exactly?). Perfectionism has gotten me this far in life, and it’s not something I wanted to let go of.

But I did need to learn how to manage and refine it, especially when I found myself in the thick of postpartum and early motherhood. It wasn’t about "overcoming perfectionism"; it was about understanding its duality—the parts that serve me and the parts that needed some fine-tuning.
